The Lansing City Council’s Intergovernmental Relations Committee, chaired by the third ward’s City Council Member A’Lynne Robinson has been working feverishly to draft and present to the full City Council an ordinance regulating the location of cell towers.
The three-member committee has reviewed the model ordinance as presented by a Grand Rapids law firm and has suggested several changes.

The ordinance is a result of T-Mobile’s efforts to build a 120-foot cell tower in the Averill Woods neighborhood on Lansing’s southside. After being rebuffed for a special use permit by the Lansing City Council the cellphone service provider filed suit in U.S. District Court.
