What a wonderful day! On behalf of the Averill staff we thank you all for your time and effort. Everything looks amazing! I especially loved the videos. Even though I was there, I did not get to see what everyone was doing. Thanks again!

I can't wait to hear what all the kids and teachers say when they see this!!!

It still gives me goosebumps to see the transformation!!!

It's so cool that Averill Elementary just gained 3 acres of classroom space this weekend :)

The bike ride starts at 2 PM. Starting point is the Averill School parking lot. Al types of bikes are welcome: Clunkers, MTBs, road, hybrids, trikes, what have you.
This is a casual, get acquainted ride of about 6 to 7 miles around the neighborhoods. Will not be crossing any high traffic streets. Roads must be clear and dry. This is an all temperature ride.
     Helmets are highly suggested.
Please remember to bring you signed waiver, or you can sign when you arrive at the ride start.
You will be given cue/route sheets to follow.
On this initial ride, I'd like to find out how far and how long you would prefer to ride, what destinations, if any, you would like, to see what mix of riders we will have and plan future rides according to this mix.
Show up. It'll be fun. (That's the idea!)

Thanks for posting this, Wes. Starlight is in the Woodmere Neighborhood Association formed loooong before Averill. Woodmere encompasses the two SW blocks of our neighborhood Starlight and Waverly that are between Waverly and Averill. They've been working on this traffic issue SINCE 2001! They've been promised action for years and have seen no results. They've already done the studies and assessments and have complete agreement from the neighbors about the diverters. We just recently asked for a similar solution on Malibu for Averill. Bob Johnson was going to check into the past records to see what was promised and take action within 3 weeks. It sounds like the action is to do nothing. We'll have to follow-up with this!!

From Saturday's meeting, I gather that Starlight formed its own neighborhood association, Woodmere. But, because of the nature of these meetings, it's hard to ask too many follow-up questions. So, I wasn't able to confirm it. Perhaps, A'Lynne or somebody else can leave a comment giving some background.

If it's not in the Averill Woods neighborhood, where did it go?
Was I at the last meeting? No, I was unexpectly side-tracked by business that had to be taken care of, and no one told me what business was discussed.

"The homeowners feel like the improvements are being forced on them and won’t have the same effect as the temporary barriers to through traffic."
The sidewalks are needed on Waverly ( and bike lanes). These "improvements" will only make drivers on Waverly think that this is a fast street good for a quick through!
Personally, I think that if the residents want to keep Starlight a low-volume street, a permanent barrier would be a better solution
since the street was not built originally as a cul-de-sac which would have kept it a quite street. .
